Dreams of Uniting Communities to Create Change
At the Foundation for Artistic Expression (F.A.E.), we are on a mission to reshape the mental health narrative by providing accessible resources and unwavering support. Our journey began with a clear and compassionate goal: to address the mental health crisis with both immediate and long-term solutions. As we approach the next phase of our mission, we invite you to join us in making a profound difference.
Our Mission
F.A.E. was established to transform the way society addresses mental health and well-being. We recognize that current efforts often focus on reacting to crises rather than preventing them. While it is essential to have support systems in place for those in need, we believe in the power of proactive measures. This is why our first phase, marked by the IGNITE Mental Health Galas, has successfully laid the groundwork for our vision. Looking ahead, our second phase, set to launch in 2025, will focus on preventive strategies through the creation of youth centers across Canada.
Why We Do What We Do
Today’s youth face unprecedented challenges. Disconnection, isolation, anxiety, and a lack of purpose are all too common. The effects of the “Great ReWiring of Childhood” have led to alarming increases in self-harm, suicide, addiction, and anxiety among young people. We are committed to addressing these issues head-on by providing safe spaces where youth can find support, build connections, and develop essential life skills.
Our vision is to create nurturing environments where young people, aged 10 to 18, can thrive. At our youth centers, we will offer a range of programs designed to support holistic development:
Land-Based Learning: Engage in activities like growing and raising food, preserving it, and developing healthy eating habits while connecting with the earth.
Art-Based Learning: Explore self-expression through various forms of art, including painting, writing, carpentry, and sculpting, to share emotions, stories, and creativity.
Life Skills Development: Participate in classes such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and mental wellness practices such as breathwork, yoga, conflict management, healthy communication skills, emotional regulation, and mentorship.
Turning a Vision into a Reality
Community Involvement
Our approach to building these youth centers involves a strong community partnership. Our IGNITE events are not just fundraisers; they are immersive experiences that bring people together to support this vital cause. We also encourage community engagement through volunteer opportunities, such as teaching classes or mentoring the youth.
By supporting F.A.E., you become part of a compassionate movement aimed at preventing mental health struggles from the ground up. We believe in the power of community and creativity to foster resilience and hope among young people.
Join us in our mission to create a brighter, more supportive future for Canada’s youth. Together, we can ignite change and make a lasting impact.

Turning a Vision into a Reality
After years of mentorship and guidance, a decision was made to create a nonprofit foundation, focusing on our mission of ‘communities supporting communities’, while showcasing local talent from a variety of artists. This is done in support of mental health and vulnerable youth.
The staggering number of people who not only struggle with mental health but also those who lose their battles with it across Canada could not be ignored any longer. Small acts change the world. Mariel realized that a community of people who are able to unite and take small actions towards creating positive impact in their own communities is powerful.
Creating community, connecting humans, and providing support to organizations who are already working hard within Canada to support mental health is a purpose that Foundation for Artistic Expression was born out of.

Mariel’s tagline is ‘See the Light, Be the Light’ encouraging others to see the light in this world, the good, the love, the energy, and be a light in the world. Living by 4 rules in her life, everyday she works hard to leave a positive impact wherever she goes. Respect yourself, Respect each other, Respect your environment. and BE KIND.
